Among the films showing in theaters in October are the horror films Hole - The Abyss, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the supernatural horror thriller Doctor Sleep and the horror thriller Ready or Not.
Also making its theatrical debut this month will be the highly anticipated Joker, the live action Maleficent: Lady of Evil, the animated film The Addams Family and the sci-fi action Terminator - Dark Destiny.
OCTOBER 3:
Written and directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), Joker (USA - 2019) will arrive in Italian theaters on October 3 with Warner Bros Italia. The film is the winner of the "Golden Lion for Best Film" at the 76th Venice International Film Festival 2019.
Based on the DC Comics character of the same name created by Bob Kane, Jerry Robinson and Bill Finger, Joker moves away from the DC Extended Universe. In fact, the film is the origin story of the disturbed Arthur Fleck.
Plot: Gotham City, 1981. Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is an aspiring stand-up comedian whose lack of success forces him to work by day as a clown. In an attempt to rebel against a society that marginalizes him, the man ends up triggering a series of events that will turn him into one of the worst criminal masterminds in Gotham City history.

OCTOBER 10:
Hole - The Abyss (aka The Hole in the Ground), the Irish horror film about fears of motherhood and folklore, will make its theatrical debut Oct. 10 distributed by Koch Media. Directed by Lee Cronin, Hole - The Abyss was presented as a kind of Babadook.
Plot: fleeing a troubled past, Sarah O'Neill (Seána Kerslake) moves to a rural town with her son Chris (James Quinn Markey), deluding herself that she can live peacefully.
Here, however, the child disappears only to return completely "different." Lost in a spiral of paranoia, the woman will become convinced that her son's change was caused by the huge pit in the forest that borders their new home.
The cast also includes Simone Kirby, Steve Wall, Eoin Macken, Sarah Hanly, James Cosmo, and Kati Outinen.
The script Hole - The Abyss was written by the director himself in collaboration with Stephen Shields.

OCTOBER 17:
Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Italy, Maleficent: Lady of Evil (aka Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) will arrive in Italian cinemas on October 17.
The film is a sequel to Maleficent (2014) and is directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean - Salazar's Revenge). Maleficent: Lady of Evil Is a reinterpretation of the Disney animated classic Sleeping Beauty in the Woods and stars Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer.
In the first chapter, a series of events led a young fairy creature to turn into an evil witch and cast a curse on little Princess Aurora.
Set several years later, the sequel continues to explore the relationship between Maleficent and the future Queen. Meanwhile, there will be new alliances and new adversaries to face to protect the moors and all the magical creatures that inhabit them.
Maleficent: Lady of Evil sees the return of part of the cast of Maleficent. In fact, in addition to Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, this new story also features Sam Riley, Lesley Manville, Juno Temple, and Imelda Staunton.

The horror thriller Ready or Not (aka Ready or Not) will debut in Italian theaters on October 24, 2019 with 20th Century Fox.
Written by Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy (The Mill at Calder's End), Ready or Not features Radio Silence or Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directors of Devil's Due.
The film stars Samara Weaving (The Babysitter), here as a young bride involved in a deadly game on her very wedding night. The girl will discover too late that she is part of a terrifying ritual in which members of her groom's family will compete in hide-and-seek to kill her before dawn.
In the cast of Ready or Not, in addition to Samara Weaving, are Mark O'Brien, Adam Brody (Jennifer's Body), Henry Czerny (Fido), Melanie Scrofano, Kristian Bruun, Elyse Levesque, and John Ralston.

Produced and written by Guillermo Del Toro (Oscar winner for The Shape of Water) and directed by André Øvredal (Autopsy), Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (USA - 2019) will arrive in Italian theaters on October 24 with Notorious Pictures.
The film is the film adaptation of the novel series of the same name (consisting of three volumes and published between 1981 and 1991) written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell.
Plot: America, 1968. For generations the small town of Mill Valley has been terrorized by the Bellows. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a girl with horrible secrets, has fixed her troubled existence with notes, turning it into a series of frightening stories written in a book. Her tales will become all too real for a group of teenagers who go on a quest to discover the haunted house.

OCTOBER 31:
The animated film The Addams Family (aka The Addams Family) will be released in Italian theaters by Eagle Pictures on October 31, 2019.
The Addams Family is directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, the directors of Sausage Party, who also produced it together with Gail Berman and Alex Schwartz.
For the appearance of the Addamses, the two directors were inspired by the original drawings of U.S. artist Charles Addams, the creator of the famous characters. Revised by Matt Lieberman, the script instead is by Pamela Pettler (The Corpse Bride, Monster House).
Plot: the Addamses must confront Margaux Needler, a shady reality TV host, just as the ghoulish family is preparing to receive relatives for an important clan reunion.
Italian voice actors include: Virginia Raffaele (Morticia), Eleonora Gaggero (Wednesday), Pino Insegno (Gomez), Loredana Bertè (Grandma Addams), Luciano Spinelli (Pugsley) and Raoul Bova (Uncle Fester).

Terminator: Dark Destiny (aka Terminator: Dark Fate) will debut in Italian theaters on October 31 with 20th Century Fox Italia. Directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), Terminator: Dark Destiny is the sequel to Terminator 2 - Judgment Day and marks the return of Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The cast also includes Edward Furlong (American History X, Stoic), the actor who played John Connor in Terminator 2 - Judgment Day (1991).
The film is the sixth installment in the sci-fi saga started in 1984 by James Cameron with Terminator.
Plot: 27 years after the destruction of Cyberdyne Systems, Skynet sends Rev 9, a new Terminator from the future with the task of eliminating young Dani Ramos. To save herself, the girl will have to rely on the help of Sarah Connor and an old T-800.
Also in the cast are Gabriel Luna, Mackenzie Davis, Diego Boneta, Brett Azar, Natalia Reyes, Steven Cree, Rochelle Neil, James Barriscale, and Fraser James.
The screenplay of Terminator: Dark Destiny was written by Josh Friedman in collaboration with David S. Goyer, Billy Ray and Justin Rhodes while James Cameron, the creator of the franchise, appears on the crew as a producer.

Doctor Sleep is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Stephen King in 2013, which in turn is a sequel to another famous literary work by the writer namely Shining (1977).
Directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus - The Reflection of Evil, Somnia), this supernatural thriller will arrive in Italian theaters with Warner Bros. Italy on October 31.
Doctor Sleep harkens back to the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in Shining. The film is both an adaptation of Stephen King's work of the same name viz. Doctor Sleep, than a sequel to Shining (directed by Stanley Kubrick).
Plot: Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) is a 40-year-old man scarred by the trauma he experienced as a child at the Overlook Hotel, following which he no longer used his psychic powers.
One day she meets Abra (Kyliegh Curran), a teenager with her own powers, called "shimmering." The young girl desperately seeks his help against the ruthless Rose (Rebecca Ferguson) and her followers of the "True Knot" who feed on the "glittering" of the innocent in pursuit of immortality. The alliance between the two will force Dan to resort once again to his psychic powers, thus coming to terms with the ghosts of the past.
