With a post on Instagram, Focus Features announced the release date of Nosferatu (2024), the gothic horror film written and directed by Robert Eggers (The VVitch) and featuring Bill Skarsgård (It, It - Chapter Two) as Count Orlok.
The film is the Focus Features-branded cinematic retelling of Nosferatu the vampire (directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau), considered one of the cornerstones of horror and expressionist cinema and will see the light of day in U.S. theaters at Christmas 2024.
The story of the new Nosferatu sheds light on Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp), a troubled young woman in 19th-century Germany, and Count Orlok, the dangerous Transylvanian vampire (Bill Skarsgard) who stalks her.
Nicholas Hoult plays the woman's husband, while Willem Dafoe and Emma Corrin are Albin Eberhart Von Franz and Anna Harding, respectively.
The cast includes Willem Dafoe (Streets of Fire, The Shadow of the Vampire, John Wick), Lily-Rose Depp (Tusk, Silent Night), Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, Renfield), Emma Corrin (Lady Chatterley's Lover), Bill Skarsgård (It, It - Chapter Two) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Bullet Train).
We remember you that Nosferatu the vampire (1922) boasts the makeover Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Werner Herzog. In contrast, the year 2000 marks The Shadow of the Vampire (by E. Elias Merhige), a fictional tribute to Murnau's masterpiece and starring Willem Dafoe himself.
