Nocebo explores issues of consumerism, human exploitation and the "fast fashion" industry, as well as the power of the mind in the ability to make the body sick or heal. The opposite of "placebo," "nocebo" is a term used to label the negative or unwanted reactions a subject manifests following the administration of a false drug that is completely inactive, but perceived by the patient as dangerous.
Nocebo is currently in production in Ireland and, according to reports from Variety, the film is the first co-production between Ireland and the Philippines. The story is set between London and Manila and follows the story of a woman (Eva Green), a fashion designer suffering from a mysterious illness that baffles doctors and worries her husband (Mark Strong). The woman's life will change abruptly when the help of a Filipina caregiver (Chai Fornacier) arrives who, through traditional healing methods, will uncover a shocking truth.

Bianca Balbuena and Bradley Liew of Epic Media are the co-producers while XYZ Films (Vivarium, Without Name) is the executive producer.
Instead, in addition to Eva Green and Mark Strong, Chai Fonacier, a film and theater actress as well as a Filipino singer and songwriter, is also confirmed in the cast.
