According to io9, Disney Publishing has hired U.S. writer Shea Ernshaw (Winterwood) to write a young adult novel set after the events of Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), the cult dark fantasy made in stop-motion. The film was conceived and produced by Tim Burton while Henry Selick (Coraline and the Magic Door) directed.
The novel is still untitled and the story will be told from Sally's point of view.
"It is set shortly after the events of the first film," revealed the author, "it is the love story between Sally and Jack Skeletron but it is also a coming of age story for her as she will have to come to terms with the title of 'Pumpkin Queen' in the land of Halloween."
Synopsis of literary sequel: Sally and Jack are happily married. Their lives undergo a sudden change when Sally accidentally puts a mysterious villain back out in the land of Halloween. With Jack and the party world in danger, the rag-clad doll will embark on a quest to other, even unexplored worlds in the guise of the Pumpkin Queen. Here she will learn secrets related to saving the world while also making new discoveries about her past life.
