IndieWire has shared the first official images of the crime thriller Nightmare Alley, the new film by Oscar-winning director Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water).
The film will arrive in theaters on December 17, 2021.
Nightmare Alley is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name written in 1946 by William Lindsay Gresham, a literary work already transposed for film by Edmund Goulding with The Fair of Illusions (1947).
Written by Guillermo Del Toro himself in collaboration with Kim Morgan, Nightmare Alley brings together a stellar cast that includes Bradley Cooper (Next Stop: Hell), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Toni Collette (Hereditary - The Roots of Evil), David Strathairn (The Assassin's Web), Rooney Mara (Nightmare - 2010), Michael Shannon (Bug - Paranoia is Contagious), Richard Jenkins (Wolf - The Beast is Out), Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Mark Povinelli.
The protagonist of the story is a young and ambitious con man who associates with an equally corrupt and untrustworthy psychiatrist. The two become partners and join forces to con people for money but the woman ends up deceiving her colleague as well.
With a message on Twitter, the director announced that the trailer will be released tomorrow.
