The official trailer for Nightborn, the new horror movie directed by Finnish filmmaker Hanna Bergholm, best known for Hatching, is now online. The movie will have its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 22 before debuting on Shudder on July 31.
Starring Seidi Haarla (Compartment No. 6) and Rupert Grint (Knock at the Cabin), Nightborn tells a dark story of motherhood and unconditional maternal love, drawing inspiration from Nordic folklore.

Plot: Saga and her British husband, Jon, move into the isolated home where she spent much of her childhood, deep in the Finnish forest, hoping to build the perfect family. But after their son is born, despite the reassurances of those around her, Saga becomes convinced that something is terribly wrong with the child. As their marriage begins to fall apart and Jon struggles to understand his wife, only Saga seems able to sense the horrifying truth about their newborn.

According to director Hanna Bergholm, Nightborn draws inspiration from Nordic mythology. For centuries, Scandinavian folklore has told of trolls inhabiting the forests and wielding power over nature. In the movie, the forest reflects Saga's emotional state as well as the most primal and instinctive side of human nature.

The cast also includes Pamela Tola, Pirkko Saisio, Rebecca Lacey, and John Thomson.
