Important news for Return of the living dead, the 1968 Romerian masterpiece considered the precursor of the zombie movie genre. This is not a cinema screening of the said film like the one that took place last year on Halloween (Halloween at the movies: Night of the Living Dead at TheSpace) but of a sequence of about 10 minutes that was apparently originally in Romero's film and which distributors removed.
Revealing the existence of the precious footage was George A. Romero himself a few days ago at the "Monster Mania" horror convention held in Maryland. In fact, the director claimed to have found the 16mm working copy of about 9 minutes of scenes that were never released and that he thought had been lost. The sequence in question takes place in the basement.
The discovery came about as work is being done on a new restoration of the Night of the Living Dead which will reportedly be edited by Martin Scorsese.
It is therefore hoped that a director's cut will be released to enjoy these precious minutes amputated from the most beautiful film of all time.
