The House with Laughing Windows (La casa dalle finestre che ridono), Pupi Avati's 1976 horror classic, returns to Italian theaters on July 13 in a newly restored 4K edition. Ahead of its theatrical re-release, the new trailer is now online.
Distributed by CG Entertainment in collaboration with Cat People, the restored edition marks the 50th anniversary of the cult classic. The 4K restoration was completed by SND and the Cineteca di Bologna at the L'Immagine Ritrovata laboratory using the original camera negatives provided by ACEK.

THE MOVIE:

Considered one of the most important films in Italian giallo cinema, The House with Laughing Windows blends thriller, horror, and mystery in a story set in the countryside of Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, where an atmosphere of quiet unease gradually transforms the rural landscape into a place of constant tension.
Nearly fifty years after its original release, the movie continues to stand out for its ability to build horror rooted in everyday life through its masterful use of setting, silence, and mystery.
A movie that left a lasting mark on Italian genre cinema, The House with Laughing Windows still retains all of its evocative power today.

The story follows Stefano, a young art restorer assigned to restore a disturbing fresco in a small village in Italy's Po Valley. Created years earlier by an artist who took his own life, the painting depicts the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian in the arms of two monstrous women. As the restoration progresses, Stefano becomes caught in a spiral of silence, suspicion, and murder, eventually uncovering a dark secret the villagers are willing to protect at any cost.
