FROM SHORT FILM TO FEATURE FILM - Although it has been known for several months that Tim Burton will direct and produce Frankenweenie, a motion picture based on the short film of the same name he made in 1984, only now the Walt Disney Pictures has decided to reveal some details about the film. First of all, the official synopsis is finally available:
"In Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, young Victor conducts a scientific experiment for the purpose of bringing Sparky, his beloved dog, back to life, but in doing so he will face a series of misunderstandings and sometimes monstrous consequences. Animated in stop motion, Frankenweenie will be directed in black-and-white and 3-D to elevate the classic style to a new cinematic experience.
From the creative genius of Tim Burton (Alice In Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) comes Frankenweenie, a moving fable about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his dog Sparky, young Victor relies on the power of science to bring his best friend back to life - with just a few minor 'fixes'. He attempts to hide his homemade creation, but when Sparky comes out, Victor's classmates, teachers, and the entire country discover that 'leashing' life can be monstrous".
Frankenweenie is a very unique dark-tinged animated comedy set to debut in the US on October 5, 2012. The cast of American voice actors for now includes. Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer. We add a section of the release that reveals some interesting facts about the project:
- "When Tim Burton conceived Frankenweenie in his mind, he wanted to make a stop-motion animated feature film. Because of restrictions due to insufficient budget, he decided to direct the 1984 live-action short film.
- Frankenweenie will follow in the footsteps of Tim Burton's previous stop-motion animated films, The Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas, both of which were nominated for Oscars.
- The cast of voice actors includes four actors who have worked with Burton in his previous films-Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Catherine O'Hara (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas), Martin Short (Mars Attacks!), and martin Landau (Ed Wood, The Mystery Of Sleepy Hollow).
- Many of the names chosen for the characters in Frankenweenie - Victor, Elsa Van Helsing, Edgare 'E' Gore, and Mister Burgermeister - pay homage to classic horror film".
