Never with a full moon (USA – 1973) è un horror sulla licantropia diretto da Nathan Juran, regista specializzato in fantasy per famiglie, quindi incline verso un pubblico giovane. Il film omaggia gli Universal degli anni '30 trascurando in parte, però, il lato horror.
More than a movie about werewolves in fact, Never with a full moon (aka The Boy Who Cried Werewolf) assume i toni drammatici concentrandosi su temi quali il divorzio, il rapporto tra padre e figlio e le paure dell'infanzia. Tematiche, queste, che donano al film un'impronta prettamente fiabesca e dai contorni orrorifici.

Plot: Little Richie (Scott Sealey), whose parents are divorced, goes to spend the weekend with his father at their mountain lodge. Just during the full moon, however, the two are attacked by a huge creature that manages to bite the adult. The young boy, certain that they were victims of a werewolf attack, is convinced that his father could also turn into a monster.
Diretto dignitosamente da Nathan Juran, il film si avvale di momenti cult (il lupo mannaro che prende in braccio la donna o che seppellisce una testa in garage) e della discreta prova recitativa di Kerwin Mathews il quale, nel ruolo del lupo mannaro, regala al pubblico una performance molto teatrale basata principalmente sull'espressività dello sguardo e sulla sua gestualità . La sceneggiatura (a cura di Bob Homel) purtroppo presenta delle parti forzate che influenzano lo scorrere della storia. A tal proposito infatti, oltre ad alcune morti bizzarre, è sicuramente fuori luogo anche il gruppo dei pacifisti guidati da un leader piuttosto ridicolo.
In Never with a full moon the werewolf's makeup is also passable (although at times the features resemble those of a baboon) while the special effects are visibly poor.
Never with a full moon è tuttavia un film piacevole, consigliato sicuramente ai nostalgici della filmografia degli anni '70.
