Six years after The Strangers (2008), Bryan Bertino writes and directs his second feature film Mockingbird - In diretta dall'inferno (USA - 2014), un thriller/horror realizzato con la tecnica del found footage.
With Mockingbird, Bryan Bertino proves adept at recreating a deep sense of dread and oppression within domestic walls, just as in the previous 2008 film.
Ne In diretta dall'Inferno in fact, several disconnected people find themselves in the same situation. All the protagonists will receive a camera at home that cannot be turned off and will change their lives forever. In order not to die, each of them will be forced to record videos by sticking to certain rules and thus become the puppet of a dangerous game.
Except for a boring early part, Mockingbird is yet another mockumentary that nonetheless differs from most of the titles that fall into this film genre. A few directorial gimmicks, the characters grappling with the mysterious camera, and the welcome twist at the end make it a worthwhile and enjoyable horror film that steers clear of so many failed found footage films. Although lacking in truculent scenes, the film manages to instill a good deal of suspense in the viewer thanks to a story that focuses on mystery. The final twist then lends an elegant touch of cruelty and nastiness to the story.
In the cast of Mockingbird include Colby French, Alexandra Lydon, Todd Stashwick, Audrey Marie Anderson, Spencer List, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Natalie Alyn Lind, and Benjamin Stockham.
The film's production was handled by the director himself along with Jason Blum (the producer of Insidious, Paranormal Activity and Anarchy - Judgment Night) and Adrienne Biddle.

Mockingbird - In diretta dall'inferno is available in the DVD fomato (Universal label) from October 2017 and is distributed by CG Entertainment. The DVD has a flawless audio/video compartment but lacks extra content.
