Midsommar - The Village of the Damned has been rated Rated R (forbidden to children under 17 unaccompanied by an adult) for violent and disturbing rituals, strong sexual content, gruesome images, graphic nudity, drug use and inappropriate language. It was A 24 itself that shared on Twitter the rating obtained by the film.
After the surprising directorial debut with Hereditary - The Roots of Evil (2018), Ari Aster writes and directs Midsommar - The Village of the Damned, a horror film that draws on Swedish folklore. In particular, the film deals with the theme of midsummer, a very important occasion in the culture of Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
Distributed in Italy by Eagle Pictures, Midsommar - The Village of the Damned Will arrive in theaters on July 25, 2019.
The protagonists of the story are Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor), a young American couple who, on the occasion of the traditional "Midsummer Festival," reach a remote Swedish village where their friend Josh (Will Poulter) will be waiting for them.
What begins as a carefree summer vacation takes a sinister turn when locals invite their guests to participate in disturbing rituals. From an idyllic retreat, this remote country village will quickly turn into a nightmarish place because of a pagan cult practiced there.
In the cast of Midsommar there are also Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Julia Ragnarsson, William Jackson Harper, Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe.
The soundtrack is by British composer Bobby Krlic known by the pseudonym The Haxan Cloak.
