The poster and trailer for Mārama, a gothic horror film directed by Taratoa Stappard, are now online.
The film, which has already screened successfully at international festivals, will be released in U.S. theaters on April 17 by Dark Sky Films in collaboration with Watermelon Pictures.
With Mārama, Stappard explores the consequences of colonialism, expanding personal pain into a broader, unsettling dimension where the past continues to exert its influence on the present.

Set in 1859 in North Yorkshire during the Victorian era, the story follows Māori orphan Mary Stevens (Ariāna Osborne), who, after receiving a letter from a mysterious stranger claiming to have information about her parents, travels to England to uncover the truth about her origins.
Upon arriving at Hawkser Manor, she is warmly welcomed by Nathanial Cole, who offers her a position as governess to his granddaughter Ann, but there is something deeply unsettling about the house...

Mārama had its world premiere at TIFF and later screened at several prestigious festivals, including Palm Springs, AFI Fest, Sitges, and others.
The film is produced by Sharlene George, co-CEO and founding partner of the international production company The Sweetshop.
Cast: Ariāna Osborne, Toby Stephens, Umi Myers, Erroll Shand, and Jordan Mooney.
