Mad Macbeth is the title of the new film directed by Italian director Domiziano Cristopharo (Red Krokodil, House of Flesh Mannequins, Bloody Sin) once again in Kosovo where he was again joined by Halil Budakova, Merita Budakova and Edi Lushi, three of the actors from the cast of Virus: Extreme Contamination. At his side, once again, is the well-known Italian screenwriter Antonio Tentori (A Cat in the Brain, Frankenstein 2000, Dracula 3D), already the author of the script for the aforementioned zombie movie.
Loosely based on Shakespearean tragedy, Mad Macbeth is a post-apocalyptic film shrouded in unforgettable, dark atmospheres typical of the literary "Macbeth" and recalling in a personal way those of post-Atomic 80s cinematography, particularly that of Enzo G. Castellari and even more films such as Mad Max by George Miller and Raiders of Atlantis By Ruggero Deodato.

È una sorta di calderone cinematografico in cui convergono anche rimandi e omaggi alla letteratura di Howard Phillips Lovecraft (i Grandi Antichi), tanto cara al regista romano. Il risultato è un'opera complessa e ricca a cui è stata data un'anima intrigante e originale che intrattiene per la sua diversità e bellezza.
Come il personaggio letterario, anche il Macbeth di Cristopharo è accecato dalla brama di potere, dalla follia ed è segnato da un amaro destino. La storia invece è ambientata in un futuro post-atomico in cui i protagonisti non sono persone aristocratiche come nell'opera letteraria bensì dei nomadi, piccole tribù metropolitane che si fronteggiano per conquistare il potere. Sebbene non siano circondati dal lusso ma dal pattume, questi sovrani del nulla vivono all'aperto e, vestiti di stracci, combattono per un ideale malsano.
Thus, amidst prophecies, betrayals, murders, remorse, dreams and plots, the vision of Mad Macbeth scorre senza intoppi grazie alla regia esperta di Cristopharo, inebriando lo spettatore e risvegliando in lui le più disparate emozioni con ammirevoli e indimenticabili sequenze (le tre streghe che preannunciano gli eventi, l'omicidio del re, la megera sulla sedia a rotelle incontrata nel tunnel, il fantasma della moglie), immortalate da una curatissima fotografia.
Very good acting evidence. Prominent among the actors are Edi Lushi (as Macduff), Halil Budakova and Merita Budakova. The performances of the latter two actors, in particular, are exemplary (the two play Macbeth/Re Dushkan and Lady Madhnore).
Plot: In a world devastated by nuclear war, several Kosovar gypsy tribes vie for the crown of King Dushkan. Once he succeeds his ancestor and is reincarnated as him, Macbeth will learn a terrible secret related to the military base he has taken possession of.
