Mad Heidi is the title of the horror-comedy genre film and parody of Heidi, the character from the animated series of the same name produced in 1974 and based on the children's novel written in 1880 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri.
Presented as the first film "Swissploitation“, Mad Heidi is produced by Tero Kaukomaa (Iron Sky) and Valentin Greutert (Paradise War) and features Swiss newcomer director Johannes Hartmann as director.
U.S. screenwriter, actor, director, and producer Trent Haaga, on the other hand, is involved in the film's script. The latter stated "I have always been a big fan of exploitation films-from spaghetti westerns to kung-fu movies and 1960s cinema. I consider Mad Heidi As a love letter to this cinema... Mad Heidi is also a futuristic fairy tale heavily inspired by a classic and much-loved novel“.
Plot: Now grown up, Heidi is an Alpine girl in an alternative Switzerland that has fallen under fascist rule. Her desire for freedom will be the spark that ignites a revolution.
