Il film è stato distribuito negli Stati Uniti il 6 gennaio da Universal Pictures incassando 45 milioni di dollari in tutto il mondo a fronte di un budget di 12 milioni di dollari e ricevendo recensioni positive dalla critica. In Italia invece ha debuttato nelle sale il 4 gennaio.
Targeted by Universal, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, M3gan features Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) as director and stars Allison Williams (Escape - Get Out), here as Gemma, a brilliant robotics expert who creates M3GAN, an android designed to become a child's greatest friend. She then decides to test the doll with her granddaughter Cady, whose guardian she has become after a tragedy involving her parents.
