M, Fritz Lang's 1931 masterpiece, is being adapted into a graphic novel by Andrea Cavaletto for the "Horror" series published by Edizioni NPE.
Featuring a foreword by Francesco Massaccesi, the volume is part of the publisher's series of comic book adaptations of classic movies, which already includes Cavaletto's versions of Un Chien Andalou and Freaks. The graphic novel will be released on October 2, 2026.

Italian screenwriter, writer and graphic designer, best known for his work with Sergio Bonelli Editore as a writer for Dylan Dog and Martin Mystère, Andrea Cavaletto continues his exploration of movies that have shaped his imagination, this time taking on one of the key works in Fritz Lang's filmography.

One of the earliest German sound movies and widely regarded as a precursor to the noir genre that would develop during the 1940s, M draws inspiration from the brutal murders committed by Peter Kürten in Germany during the 1920s.
The story centers on a killer, played in the movie by Peter Lorre, who targets and murders several young girls without leaving a trace. As the police intensify their investigation, beggars and criminals also organize their own manhunt. The killer is eventually betrayed by the tune from Grieg's Peer Gynt that he whistles as he approaches his victims. After being identified by a balloon seller, he is marked on the back with a large "M", the initial of Mörder ("murderer"), and is subsequently hunted down and captured.
