An all-new trailer for Love Is the Monster, the folk horror movie directed by Alex Noyer, the filmmaker behind Sound of Violence, is now online. The movie will be available on Prime Video in the United States starting June 23.
Starring Madeline Zima (Twin Peaks) and Leonardo Nam (Werewolf by Night), the story follows a troubled couple who travel to a remote location in Finland, only to fall under the influence of an ancient and malevolent goddess of love.
Plot: Following an affair that shakes their marriage, Ana and Justin seek a fresh start through the teachings of Tiina, a shaman and healer whose methods are rooted in the worship of Lempo, the ancient Finnish goddess of love and fertility. What initially appears to be a path toward healing soon turns into a fight for survival as the influence of the deity and the pagan rituals surrounding her prove increasingly deadly.
Originally associated with love and fertility in pre-Christian Finnish tradition, Lempo was later reinterpreted by Christianity as a malevolent entity capable of exerting a destructive influence over people.
The cast also includes Kimberly Sue-Murray, Moe Jeudy-Lamour, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Milla Puolakanaho, and Sheila McCarthy.
The screenplay was written by Alex Noyer alongside Hannu Aukia, who previously collaborated with him on Sound of Violence, and Blair Bathory.
