Those who have been waiting for John Carpenter's (Fog, The Thing, They Live) return to directing for some time will be happy to know that the celebrated U.S. director, screenwriter and composer has been working in great secrecy on a new project: Satan on Earth, the sequel (working title) to. The Lord of Evil (aka Prince of Darkness), the cult film he directed in 1987.
This was announced by himself during an interview on Deadline.
According to some statements made by John Carpenter, the Master devoted himself to writing the script during the pandemic, inspired by the almost post-apocalyptic scenario caused by the virus around the world.
“The lockdown allowed me to focus on a project I had long wanted to do. The troubling and chilling global situation gave me the incipit to start a story that relates to that of the The Lord of Evil Inserting not the virus but evil as the root cause.
Satan on earth will shed light on the consequences associated with the psychological and physical presence of the Devil, attributing his reign as the cause of evil on earth" added John Carpenter.
Filming will begin this summer, pandemic permitting. The film, currently in pre-production, is in the casting stage.
In this regard, the Master made the following statement: "I hope to involve my friend and multiple collaborator Kurt Russell in this project and to give one of the main roles to Anya Taylor-Joy“.
