Secondo quanto riportato da Deadline, Lidya Jewett (Nightbooks - Racconti di paura) ha raggiunto il cast di The Exorcist, primo capitolo di una trilogia (targata Universal/Blumhouse) basata sull’omonimo romanzo di William Peter Blatty e che sarà anche il sequel diretto dell'adattamento cinematografico The Exorcist directed by William Friedkin in 1973.
Written by Peter Sattler and Scott Teems, the film features David Gordon Green, author of the Michal Myers trilogy (Halloween, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends), as director.
Lidya Jewett will join Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd and also Ellen Burstyn, here again as Chris MacNeil, Regan's mother, a character she previously played in William Friedkin's film.
Details of her part have not been released at present, but there is speculation that she may be the new girl possessed.

The story features Regan (Linda Blair), a 12-year-old girl who begins to show signs of imbalance after playing with a ouija board and unintentionally summoning the demon Pazuzu. Initially her mother will subject her to several medical, including psychiatric, examinations but without noticing any improvement in her daughter. Some disturbing and abnormal behaviors of Regan will then lead the woman to turn to Father Karras.
