E' attualmente in pre-produzione Leatherface, the prequel to Don't open that door by Tobe Hooper. A new chapter is thus added to the full-bodied franchise that with this one groups as many as eight titles. As a reminder, the penultimate film that references Hooper's film is the reboot Don't Open That Door 3D (Texas Chainsaw 3D) by John Luessenhop, which landed in theaters in 2013.
To direct Leatherface sono i registi francesi Julien Maury e Alexandre Bustillo che alle spalle hanno titoli importanti come À l'intérieur, Livide, Aux yeux des vivants e il segmento "X is for Xylophone" in The ABCs of Death 2. La sceneggiatura del film invece è a cura di Seth M. Sherwood, mentre della produzione si sono occupati Christa Campbell e Lati Grobman.
The story of Leatherface si concentra sull'iconico personaggio, durante gli anni della sua adolescenza, tracciando così il tortuoso percorso che lo ha portato a diventare il temibile "faccia di cuoio".
Quattro ragazzi violenti rapiscono un'infermiera e fuggono dall'ospedale psichiatrico in cui sono ricoverati. Un poliziotto pericoloso e assetato di vendetta, riuscirà a stravolgere la mente di uno dei giovani trasformandolo in un mostro privo di sentimenti.
