In an interview with Empire, Edgar Wright spoke about his Last Night in Soho, promising that it will be a horror film unlike any other, an unprecedented experience.
"It will be very different from my other films," Edgar Wright revealed to Empire and added that Last Night in Soho will be a "psychological thriller with horror overtones" and with "an influence of 1960s and 1970s cinema," "a cinematic work that mixes multiple genres" dear to the director.
Initially, the film was to be released in September, but due to post-production problems caused by the pandemic, the premiere was postponed to April 23, 2021.
Directed by Edgar Wright (Dawn of the Demented Dead, Hot Fuzz), Last Night in Soho stars Thomasin McKenzie (The Hobbit - The Battle of the Five Armies), Anya Taylor-Joy (The VVitch, Glass), Terrance Stamp (Superman) and Matt Smith (Patient Zero).
The script for the film is by Edgar Wright himself in collaboration with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Penny Dreadful). Among the sources of inspiration, the director cited. In Venice... a shocking red December by Nicolas Roeg and Repulsion by Roman Polanski.
The story is set in the 1960s, in the London neighborhood of Soho. Haunted by the era in which she lives, Eloise (Thomasin McKenzie) forges an unusual relationship with Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy) in order to experience with her that period of history she so loved.
