For the month of January, Koch Media also handled the distribution of a Norwegian action/adventure/drama film titled The Last King (2016). Written by Ravn Lanesskog and directed by Nils Gaup, The Last King (aka Birkebeinerne) draws the viewer into the fascinating, snowy, blood-stained moors of medieval Norway.
The film, available from January 24 on DVD and Blu-ray, is based on documented historical events wrapped in evocative atmospheres reminiscent of those in Vikings and The Iron Throne. After all, one of the protagonists of The Last King is indeed Kristofer Hivju, the red-haired actor who in the famous TV series The Iron Throne plays the brute Tormund Giantsbane.
Plot: In 1205 civil war has weakened and destroyed Norway. The king is fighting for survival against the archbishops of the Church, who are eager to gain final victory and thus power. While the ruler is on his deathbed, his only heir is born in great secrecy. Intent on protecting the little one with all their might, the valiant warriors Skjiervald (Jakob Oftebro) and Tornstein (Kristofer Hivju) face a perilous journey among the icy and hostile nature.
