Killroy was here is the title of the horror comedy featuring Kevin Smith, the director of Red State and Tusk. A trailer is already available of the film, which was presented at the San Diego Comic Con.
Compared by the director himself to Creepshow and to V/H/S, Killroy was here is an old-style horror anthology that takes its cue from "Kilroy Was Here," an expression of U.S. mass culture often depicted in graffiti form.
The film consists of several, short, episodes that share the same title character, Killroy.
“Killroy is a bit like a superhero who protects children. If someone hurts them, Killroy appears. And he looks funny: bald and with a prominent nose, just like the little man in the meme" stated Kevin Smith on IndieWire.
The director chose makeup artist Bob Kurtzman to create a character that would resemble the original graffiti and also be suitable for a horror film. "Makeup artist Robert Kurtzman has come up with something that is scary but also funny at the same time" added Smith.
Killroy was here is expected to be released in early 2021. The cast includes Ryan O'Nan, Azita Ghanizada, Chris Jericho, Betty Aberlin, Gregory Kelly, Brogan Hall, and Fedor Steer.
The screenplay is by Andrew McElfresh in collaboration with Kevin Smith.
