Mike and Debbie are two engaged couples who during a romantic evening see something land in the distance. They find a circus tent, but the reality is much more disturbing. They flee to the city seeking help, although they are aware of the difficulty of being believed. Meanwhile, murderous clowns from deep space make their way to the city, with evil intentions....
It is not a Troma film, but it very well could be: in the U.S. it is a cult film, in Italy it is known only to the niche.
It is a bizarre homage to certain old science fiction movies, with the aim of enacting (succeeding) an absurd idea: an attack by evil, ironic, and swaggering clown aliens.
The special effects, taking into consideration the minimal budget available, are not bad at all, as are the makeup and costumes of the clowns.
The plot is not always lively, especially when the "bad guys" are not on the scene, but overall it is lighthearted and entertaining, deliberately trashy viewing.
Of some interest is Agent Mooney, played by John Vernon, who is skeptical and distrustful of the whole UFO affair.
Good cinematography and set design as well.
Demented ending, like several other gags.
One of the transformations of human beings is very reminiscent of an episode in Futurama, which was probably inspired by this film.
However, the limitation of the film is that it may appeal only to lovers of the genre.
