Finished the filming of Joker: Folie à Deux, the Warner Bros. sequel to Joker (2019), winner of the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Film Festival.
Directed by Todd Phillips, the director of the first installment, the film marks the return of Joaquin Phoenix (The Gladiator, Quills - The Scandal Pen) again as the psychopathic clown.
Instead, he is joined by U.S. singer-songwriter and actress Lady Gaga as DC Comics' anti-heroine Harley Quinn, a character previously played by Margot Robbie in several films in the DC Extended Universe cinematic universe.
The US release date of Joker: Folie à Deux has been set for October 4, 2024 while the Italian one has not yet been announced.
In Joker: Folie à Deux there will also be Zazie Beetz (again as Sophie Dumond), Brendan Gleeson (28 Days Later) and Catherine Keener (Escape - Get Out).
The screenplay, on the other hand, is by the director herself in collaboration with Scott Silver.
Based on the DC Comics character of the same name created by Bob Kane, Jerry Robinson, and Bill Finger, Joker (2019) moves away from the DC Extended Universe. In fact, the film is the origin story of the disturbed Arthur Fleck, a man who will find himself relegated to the margins of a violent society during the 1980s in Gotham City.
