January 2022: horror movies in theaters

This month's schedule of movies in theaters includes the horror slasher Scream (USA - 2022) by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and the mystery thriller The Fair of Illusions - Nightmare Alley by Guillermo Del Toro.
The former will debut in Italian theaters on January 13, while the latter will have to wait until January 27.

JANUARY 13:

Distributed by Eagle Pictures, Scream debuts in Italian theaters on January 13, 2022. Scream is the fifth installment of the horror/slasher saga started in 1996 by Wes Craven and the first film not directed by him.
Directing is Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Till Death Do Us Part) while the screenplay is by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Castle Rock).
Plot: Twenty-five years after the series of heinous and cruel murders that rocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer in a Ghostface mask targets a group of teenagers. Because of him, fears of a past that seemed buried will resurface plunging the town into terror.
Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox, the franchise's longtime stars, are part of the cast along with Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Mikey Madison, Mason Gooding and Marley Shelton (Scream 4).

JANUARY 27:

The Fair of Illusions - Nightmare Alley (USA, Mexico, Canada - 2021), the new film by Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water) arrives in theaters Jan. 27 distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Italia.
The film is the film adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham's novel of the same name, a 1946 literary work already adapted for film by Edmund Goulding with The Fair of Illusions (1947).
The story's protagonist is Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Coope), a charismatic and ambitious carny with great manipulative skills who meets the clairvoyant Zeena (Toni Collette) and her ex-husband, the mentalist Pete (David Strathairn), at a traveling carnival.
Thanks to his new acquaintances, the man will try to swindle the New York elite of the 1940s. In fact, with the help of his faithful friend Molly (Rooney Mara) and a mysterious psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett), Stanton will set up a scam against a dangerous tycoon (Richard Jenkins).
The Fair of Illusions - Nightmare Alley brings together a stellar cast that includes Bradley Cooper (Next Stop: Hell), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Cate Blanchett (Lord of the Rings), Toni Collette (Hereditary - The Roots of Evil), David Strathairn (The Assassin's Web), Rooney Mara (Nightmare - 2010), Michael Shannon (Bug - Paranoia is Contagious), Richard Jenkins (Wolf - The Beast is Out), Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Mark Povinelli.
The screenplay, on the other hand, is by Guillermo Del Toro and Kim Morgan.
