Italy censors poster for Clown, movie about clown demon

clownThe Italian poster of Clown, the horror film directed by Jon Watts and produced by Eli Roth, has been censored in Italy because it was deemed too traumatizing. In fact, Italian theaters refused to display the official poster to avoid upsetting audiences. M2 Pictures, the film's Italian distributor, was therefore asked to provide a censored version of the original poster. In addition to the poster, the trailer for Clown was deemed too impressive, so it was decided to schedule the film exclusively in evening shows.
The film will be available in Italian theaters from November 13.

Below is the poster in the censored version and the original poster:

Clown is a project born as a joke between director Jon Watts and screenwriter Chris Ford, who in 2010 released a fake trailer in which, to give it credibility, Roth's name was also included in the production. The video quickly became a viral phenomenon on the web sparking the curiosity of many fans of the genre curious about the release date. Jon Watts and screenwriter Chris Ford thus decided to make a feature film and, having contacted Eli Roth to apologize, the latter instead offered to produce the film.

The screenplay of Clown is by Christopher D. Ford and Jon Watts. The cast, on the other hand, consists of Andy Powers, Elizabeth Whitmere, Eli Roth, Peter Stormare, Laura Allen, Christian Distefano, Matthew Stefiuk, Robert Reynolds, and John MacDonald.

A clown fails to show up at Jack's 10th birthday party. To keep the children from becoming disgruntled, Kent, the birthday boy's father, finds an old clown costume and shows up at the party, managing to bring a smile back to the little ones. Exhausted, the man falls asleep in makeup and with the costume on. The next day every attempt to get rid of makeup and clown clothes seems futile, forcing Kent to resign himself. The man, however, begins to experience a physical and psychic change, to have an uncontrolled hunger and to feel the costume as if it were his own skin. A terrible legend about a demon-clown seems to be connected with the story of the hapless Kent.
