Quest'ultimo si è occupato anche della sceneggiatura insieme a Gary Dauberman.

L'attore venticinquenne svedese Bill Skarsgård (Hemlock Grove) invece è il clown Pennywise, ruolo ricoperto dal leggendario Tim Curry nell’omonina miniserie televisiva diretta da Tommy Lee Wallace nel 1990.
Il film sarà composto da due parti. La prima, la cui data di distribuzione è fissata per l'8 settembre 2017, si concentrerà sull'infanzia di un gruppo di adolescenti chiamati Club dei perdenti. La seconda parte invece sarà dedicata al suddetto club da adulto.
