During the Sitges Film Festival, Dario Argento (born 1940) made a surprise announcement that he is working on a new film. Guest of honor at the 55th edition of the Festival, where he presented his Black glasses (2022) and collected the "Gran Premio HonorÃfico," the celebrated Roman director revealed to those present that he is involved in another project.
Without revealing specific details about the title or plot, Dario Argento (Profondo rosso, Suspiria, Phenomena) also added that French actress Isabelle Huppert (The Pianist, Darkness in the Mind) will star and that filming will begin in the spring in Paris. The film will be a remake of a 1940s Mexican thriller.
At Sitges, the director also commented on the situation of the horror genre in Italy: "It's practically dead," he said, attributing the causes to the industry "which prefers to make comedies, which are simpler and cheaper, rather than fantastic films, which are more expensive instead."
Recall that Isabelle Huppert is one of the most awarded actresses in the history of cinema, and one of the recent films she has starred in is The shadow of Caravaggio (directed by Michele Placido), in theaters from Nov. 3.
