The story stars Grace Burnham (Amber Heard), a New York doctor who in 1890 reaches a remote plantation in Colombia to care for Martin (Lorenzo McGovern Zaini), a troubled boy who seems to have special abilities. With the approval of his father (Eduardo Noriega), she begins treating him but her therapy will spark a war between science and religion when the local priest becomes convinced that Martin is possessed and is the cause of all the village's ills.
