Horror Maniacs Collection: 8 new films coming to DVD and Blu-ray in October with Universal

Starting Oct. 21, the series Horror Maniacs Collection from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will be joined by eight more new titles on both DVD and Blu-ray.
These are horror films shot between 2013 and 2020: Us, The invisible man, Get Out, Truth or Dare, Mama, The VVitch, Krampus and The Visit.

  • Us (2019): Written and directed by Jordan Peele, winner of the Academy Award for original screenplay for Escape - Get Out, We is a supernatural horror film that deals with the theme of doubles (Doppelgänger).
    The story features Adelaide Wilson (Lupita Nyong'o), a woman who reaches her childhood home by the sea with her husband Gabe and two children for a quiet summer vacation. At night, however, the family will be attacked by four mysterious and disturbing intruders who appear to be doppelgangers of each of them.
  • The invisible man (2020): Modern adaptation of the novel The invisible man by H. G. Wells.
    Produced by Jason Blum, The Invisible Man is written and directed by Leigh Whannell (Insidious 3 - The Beginning, Upgrade) and is a reboot of James Whale's 1933 film adaptation of the same name.
    Plot: Trapped in an oppressive romantic relationship with a rich and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss) flees in the middle of the night. When the man commits suicide leaving her a generous portion of his fortune as an inheritance, Cecilia will try to rebuild her life but the suspicion that her partner is not dead will plunge her into a new hell.
  • Get Out (2017): Produced by Jason Blum, Get Out is a thriller/horror about racism and marks the directorial debut of American comedian Jordan Peele (Us).
    Plot: Chris and Rose are an interracial couple (he African American and she white) who are very romantically involved. The young man agrees to visit her parents but once he arrives at their vacation home, he notices strange behavior toward him on the part of the two adults. His stay there will confront him with a chilling truth that will go beyond racism.
  • Truth or Dare (2018): Truth or Dare is directed by Jeff Wadlow (Nickname: Riddler) on a screenplay written by Jillian Jacobs, Michael Reisz, Christopher Roach and Jeff Wadlow.
    Plot: Olivia and Lucas reunite with their friends in Mexico. There they meet Carter, a boy who will involve them in the game "Truth or Dare." The carefree and innocent pastime, however, will turn into a terrible nightmare when the boys involved must confront a mysterious evil entity that will punish with death those who do not abide by the rules of the game.
  • Mama (2013): produced by Guillermo del Toro, The mother is directed by Andrés Muschietti (IT). The film is the cinematic extension of Mamá, a short film made by the director himself in 2008.
    Plot: A uxoricidal father is killed by an entity while also trying to kill his daughters, who are only a few years old. Years later the same specter follows the girls as they live alone in their new home.
  • The VVitch (2016): horror film about witchcraft written and directed by Robert Eggers. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Marrowbone).
    Plot: New England, 1630. A very religious farmer is forced to abandon his plantation and move, along with his family, to another piece of land at the edge of the woods. Suspected of witchcraft, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), the man's teenage daughter, is blamed for the death of animals and the withering of crops and other strange occurrences at the site.
  • Krampus (2016): horror-fantasy about the devils of Christmas. This is a "Christmas horror film" dedicated to the legend of the goat-men (the Krampus) and is directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat).
    Plot: little Max is sad and loses the Christmas spirit because of the strong family quarrels that occur at Christmas time. The attitude of the child and his parents will trigger the wrath of the Krampus, thus awakening an ancient demonic force ready to punish nonbelievers. The Christmas devils will besiege Max's house, sowing terror in the family.
  • The Visit (2015): thriller-horror featuring M. Night Shyamalan (Signs, The Village, Old).
    Plot: two children, a brother and sister, are sent by their parents to Pennsylvania to spend a week with their grandparents. Upon arriving there, the kids are warmly welcomed by the two elders, who, however, forbid the grandchildren to leave their room after 9:30 pm. It does not take the two siblings long to realize that the two old men are behaving very strangely, and fear takes over along with a strong desire to return home.
