On its first day in theaters, August 5, Damian McCarthy's movie took third place at the box office, ranking as the highest new release. The only titles ahead of it were Odissea and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the two movies leading the Italian box office, underscoring the strength of Hokum's debut among the week's new releases.
Released in Italian theaters on August 5 by Lucky Red, the movie grossed €86,818 from 13,485 admissions, making it one of the year’s strongest horror debuts.
With this result, Hokum ranks among the Top 5 horror opening days of 2026, coming in fifth behind only Backrooms, Scream 7, The Mummy and Evil Dead, while outperforming high-profile titles such as Obsession, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Return to Silent Hill, Send Help and Passenger.

Emmy Award nominee Adam Scott (Krampus, The Monkey) stars in this story steeped in witchcraft and folklore as Ohm Bauman, a troubled writer who travels to a remote part of Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes. What begins as a journey of remembrance takes a disturbing turn when the house where he is staying proves to be connected to a dark presence, ancient practices, and a past that resurfaces in increasingly threatening ways.
The cast also includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Will O'Connell, Michael Patrick, Brendan Conroy and Austin Amelio.
