Austrian label Black Lava draws on extreme cinema to bring to light Hi8: Resurrectio (Germany - 2016), a worthwhile German horror/extreme. Written and directed by Stefan Sierecki, Hi8: Resurrectio stars Steven (Oliver Troska), a film student who, for his thesis, would like to make the goriest film of all time despite difficulties with distribution in Germany. Standing in the way of his goal, however, are a lack of money and his professor, who is opposed to the horror genre. A mysterious website will give Steven the right motivation to bring his film to life, but the consequences of his cinematic dream will have ominous outcomes.

Genre-changing, sustained in pace, and brilliant in the most truculent scenes, Hi8: Resurrectio is a bath of suffering that ranks well among the best recent extreme horror films.
The cast includes Oliver Troska, Piet Baltissen, Uwe Choroba, Marc Gruss, Moloch, Carola Schmidt, Joris Schwarz, and Robin Stehr. The soundtrack is by David Komann.
