According to The Telegraph, Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) has joined a new adaptation of Herbert West: Reanimator, the classic horror story by H.P. Lovecraft.
The screenplay is written by Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe, the writers behind The Haunting in Connecticut, with filming expected to begin in June.
The new film adaptation will be set in Alton, Illinois, the same town where filming is scheduled to take place. Jeff Lewis stated, “We're using the town's real name, and several local businesses have already been written into the script.”
The production also plans to use local residents as background actors.
Originally published in 1922, Herbert West: Reanimator follows the brilliant yet obsessed Dr. Herbert West, whose experiments aimed at extending life lead to horrifying consequences.
The story was famously adapted into Stuart Gordon's cult horror film Re-Animator (1985), starring Jeffrey Combs in the lead role, and has since become one of the most beloved horror movies connected to the Lovecraft universe.
