Halloween Night (aka The Houses October Built) is a found footage horror film dedicated to the phenomenon of horror attractions in America, places that are very much in vogue especially at this time of year. Directing it is Bobby Roe, who has a documentary film (shot in 2011) of the same title behind him.
In Halloween Night (USA - 2014), five thrill-seeking friends are on a journey to document America's scariest parks for an unforgettable Halloween. The group will also visit lesser-known and more extreme "Houses of Terror," but their quest will bring them face to face with creepy and very dangerous characters.
It is precisely these sequences that prove successful for the purpose of entertainment, as they then succeed in almost naturally reflecting the emotions experienced by the protagonists, bringing their phobias into focus. The film teems with masked characters whose costumes are very impressive. Among them, the most successful are, for example, the clowns and the creepy girl disguised as a porcelain doll (pictured below left).
Aside from the fascinating topic addressed Halloween Night is a found footage film that adds nothing new to the subgenre. Its lengthy dialogues are certainly not points in its favor, nor is the final turn toward psychological horror. Indeed, the abundance of villains would suggest a conclusion full of heinousness and with copious doses of spatter.
However, this work may be an ideal choice for those looking for a horror film about Halloween and structures designed to terrify audiences.
