Halloween at the movies: Night of the Living Dead at TheSpace

night_of_the_living_deadIn celebration of the Halloween holiday, the cult black-and-white film returns to theaters. Night of the Living Dead by George A. Romero. This is thanks to the initiative of TheSpace Cinema, which is organizing as many as two shows for Oct. 31 (7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. approx.).

The film will be shown the last of October in the following TheSpace theaters:

Beinasco, Belpasso, Bologna, Casamassima, Catanzaro Lido, Cerro Maggiore, Corciano, Florence, Grosseto, Limena, Livorno, Milano Odeon, Montebello, Naples, Parma Barilla Center, Parma Campus, Pradamano, Quartucciu, Roma Moderno, Roma Parco De Medici, Rozzano, Salerno, Sestu, Silea, Surbo, Terni, Turin, Verona, Vicenza, and Vimercate.

Night of the Living Dead dates back to 1968 and is the first in the living dead quadrilogy directed by Romero. The '68 film is thus joined by. Dawn of the Dead (1978), Day of the Dead (1985) e Land of the Dead (2005). Instead, they constitute a separate saga Diary of the Dead (2007) and Survival of the Dead. Also de Night of the Living Dead two remakes have been made, one by Tom Savini in 1990 and another directed by Jeff Broadstreet in 2006.

Plot: Barbara and her brother Johnny reach a rural Pennsylvania town to visit their father's grave. There, however, the two are attacked by a man who kills Johnny. The woman, however, manages to escape him and take refuge in a country house where a family is hiding in the cellar. Ben also reaches the house because he is being chased by strange beings. Thanks to TV, Barbara and Ben learn with horror the news that radiation emitted by an experimental probe is the cause of the awakening of the dead who are hungry for human flesh and are spreading the epidemic by their bites. Gradually the dwelling is surrounded by the living dead....

Subject and screenplay of Night of the Living Dead Is by John A. Russo and George A. Romero. The latter, in addition to directing, also handled the cinematography along with Joseph Unitas. The film's cast includes Duane Jones, Judith O'Dea, Karl Hardman, Marilyn Eastman, Keith Wayne, Judith Ridley, Kyra Schon, S. William Hinzman, George Kosana, Randy Burr, and Russell Streiner.

Fun fact: The zombie that attacks the protagonist Barbara in the opening sequence in the cemetery is Bill Hinzman, who in 1988 directed and starred in Zombie Nosh.
