In 2017, Chris Columbus announced that he had completed the screenplay for Gremlins 3 , the new chapter in the saga dedicated to the graceful mogwai. Since then, the Warner Bros. produced project has sunk into silence until today, when the screenwriter himself revealed to ComicBook that the long-awaited installment of the franchise is still in development.
When asked about the status of Gremlins 3, Chris Columbus in fact replied, "I can only say that we are working on it. We are working to achieve this goal but we are not there yet.“.
Chris Columbus is the screenwriter of the celebrated 1980s cult films Gremlins and The Goonies. In Gremlins 3 his name also appears in the production of the film along with that of Steven Spielberg (former producer of the first chapter).
Directed by Joe Dante in 1984, Gremlins is played by Zach Galligan (The Chair, Bad Candy), here as Billy Peltzer, the young man who is given a mogwai named Gizmo, an adorable furry pet that cannot be exposed to light, cannot be bathed, and must not be fed after midnight.
1990, again directed by Joe Dante, is the year of Gremlins 2 - The New Lineage, a sequel that did not enjoy the success of the first one. In fact, the latter grossed $150 million in the year of its release in the United States alone.
