Year 1958, Crystal Lake campground. A boy named Jason Vorhees dies due to the carelessness of lifeguards, intent on making out in a cabin. The campground remains closed for many years until a group of boys decide to reopen it. But someone initiates a series of heinous murders....
Friday the 13th (1980) is the first film in a very long series and undoubtedly the best, a classic to watch especially for slasher-movie lovers. It does not shine with originality but has a good series of murders and a few decent splatter scenes, edited by special effects wizard Tom Savini; all is topped off by the rather unexpected final twist. The direction is by Sean Cunningham.
The soundtrack sets the pace of the film well.
Obvious final question: who is the killer?
