Tra le novità del mese di luglio 2017, nel catalogo di Sinister film (collana "Noir d'essai") è presente anche il DVD di Murder Frenzy (USA - 1959), il tesissimo noir basato su una caso reale che ispirò anche Knot in the Throat by Hitchcock and the two Funny Games.
Murder Frenzy (aka Compulsion) in fact it is based on the novel of the same name Compulsion by Meyer Levin, inspired by the Leopold and Loeb court case.
Nathan Freudenthal Leopold Jr. and Richard A. Loeb, were two American serial killers better known as Leopold and Loeb, two wealthy University of Chicago students whose crimes (also theft and vandalism) date back to 1924 and for which they were sentenced to life in prison. Believing themselves to be superior to the masses, the two felt free to commit all kinds of heinous acts, convinced that their intelligence would help them get away with them.
Even the recent The Divine Tragedies Is dedicated to their story.
Murder Frenzy is directed by Richard Fleischer (The Boston Strangler, Amityville III) on a screenplay by Richard Murphy.
Trama: due giovani universitari infatuati del "superuomo" di Nietzsche, decidono di commettere un omicidio per mostrare la loro superiorità alle leggi che essi stessi studiano e per sperimentare le loro insane teorie. La loro prima vittima sarà un ragazzino.
