still_lifeFirst official trailer in circulation for Still Life (Naturaleza Muerta), a horror genre film directed by Argentine Gabriel Grieco, who also wrote the screenplay. As can be seen from the poster and especially the trailer, the film will deal with the mistreatment of animals (in this case cattle) and the hell they go through on factory farms and then in slaughterhouses before ending up as food on dinner tables.

All those who commit any act of violence against animals will be killed at the hands of a serial killer intent on avenging those who cannot defend themselves. Still Life thus does not belong to the subgenre of eco-vengeance as one might imagine and of which there are other genre films about cattle including Dead Meat (for mad cow disease) and Isolation - The Terror Farm (regarding fertility experiments), but it is a slasher movie with a strong social critique.

In Still Life, in an area of Argentina known as "barbecue country," people involved in cattle ranching and beef production disappear only to be found later brutally murdered. A journalist, drawn to the case, begins to investigate until she arrives at an all-too-dangerous truth that will put her own life in the balance.

Still Life (Argentina - 2014) premiered this year at the Cannes Film Festival and was selected for the Fantastic Fest in Austin to be held this month in the United States from September 18-25.

The cast includes Luz Cipriot as the journalist, Nicolás Pauls, Mercedes Oviedo, Verónica Pelaccini, Juan Palomino, Patricio Sardelli, Amin Yoma and Nestor Sanchez. The film is produced by the director himself together with Gabriel Grieco, Pablo Guisa Koestinger and Jorge Poleri.
