Umberto Lenzi, an Italian director, screenwriter and writer known for his poliziotteschi films but especially for cannibal movies and several horror films, has died at the age of 86. The director died earlier today, Thursday, Oct. 19, following health problems.
In 1972 Umberto Lenzi inaugurated the cannibal genre with The land of wild sex which was later joined by two other films belonging to the same vein viz. Eaten alive! (1980) and, the following year, Cannibal Ferox (movie review) that has become a cult favorite.
Under the pseudonym Humphrey Humbert, in 1988 he directed The House 3, apocryphal sequel you Evil Dead. Under the name Harry KirkPatrick, on the other hand, he signed the direction of. Nightmare Beach - The Beach of Terror.
Also his horror films The gates of hell, a film that is part of the cycle "Lucio Fulci presents "and Black Demons.
The house of the spell and The home of wandering souls instead, originated as a series on cursed houses produced by Rete Italia but the two films were never broadcast on TV because they were not suitable for television audiences.
