Bruce Campbell spoke about Evil Dead Rise like this: "will be dark, serious stuff, with very good performances. The story features a single mother who finds herself dealing with the well-known book--a book that has been around for a long time and has passed from hand to hand. People have tried to get rid of it, to bury it or destroy it but it is impossible. And here it is popping up again, in another story about what happens when another group of people get hold of it“.
Obviously, Bruce Campbell is referring to the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, the book designed by Sam Raimi for the horror franchise de The House.
The actor then added: "Lee Cronin is a very serious person, a good director. Sam Raimi chose him because he was satisfied with his A Hole in the Ground… Evil Dead Rise it will be a good film, we have already seen a preliminary edit, and it has all the components we need“.
Evil Dead Rise is written and directed by Lee Cronin, who announced the end of filming in New Zealand last October with a message on Twitter.
In a social media post also, the director revealed that the crew used over 6,500 liters of fake blood during filming. According to what Lee Cronin revealed then, we should expect a gore film, in line with Evil Dead (1981) and the 2013 remake.
Sam Raimi, the creator of the franchise, appears on the project as a producer, along with longtime partner Robert Tapert and his friend Bruce Campbell.
The cast includes Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Mia Challis and Nell Fisher.
Plot of Evil Dead Rise: Beth visits her older sister Ellie, who is raising three children alone in a small apartment in Los Angeles. This sisterly reunion is interrupted by the discovery of a mysterious book in the bowels of the building in which Ellie lives. It is the Necronomicon, a dangerous text containing rituals for summoning demons that will force Beth to fight a battle for survival.
