"Facts in the life of Mr. Valdemar" e "The black cat" sono i titoli dei segmenti liberamente ispirati ai racconti di Edgar Allan Poe. Diretto da George A. Romero,"Facts in the life of Mr. Valdemar" vede protagonisti Jessica (Adrienne Barbeau) e Robert (Ramy Zada), due amanti senza scrupoli che organizzano un piano diabolico per appropriarsi del patrimonio dell'anziano marito della donna.
Dario Argento invece firma la regia de "The black cat", la cui storia segue le vicende di Roderick (Harvey Keitel), un fotografo che ha perso la sua vena creativa. Un giorno decide di realizzare un macabro shooting fotografico usando come soggetto il gatto nero della compagna Annabel.
