Don't knock on that door (aka Don't Knock Twice) is a supernatural horror film directed in 2017 by Caradog W. James (The Machine). The film deals with the urban legend of a house inhabited by a vengeful witch. Anyone who once knocks on the door of her now-empty home will awaken the hag. Instead, death will ensue on the second knock on the door knocker. Drawing the curse upon herself will be Chloe (Lucy Boynton), a girl who torna a casa dalla madre (Katee Scakhoff) che l'aveva abbandonata diciannove anni prima a causa delle sue dissolutezze.
Similar to the babau, the demon-monster of Don't knock on that door (UK 2017) is able to leave his own dimension to invade that of the protagonists and haunt them. From an interesting folk tale centered on the demon baba yaga, a character from Slavic folklore, comes the story of Don't knock on that door, un film la cui componente drammatica (il recupero del rapporto tra madre e figlia) è però prevalente sull'horror. Le due infatti incarnano personaggi (poco approfonditi) che, dapprima vulnerabili e fragili, diventano incisivi e combattivi man mano che l'orrore incombe sempre di più nella loro vita. Ne deriva che il loro rapporto (visto il contesto) risulta forzato e quindi poco credibile.
Don't knock on that door è un film riuscito solo a metà . Nonostante l'incipit molto invitante, è privo di tensione e la storia sbanda verso situazioni stereotipate e quindi prevedibili, compromettendo il coinvolgimento iniziale. A dare un po' di spessore ad uno script altrimenti molto esile, è, sicuramente, la storia che sta alla base della minaccia sovrannaturale e che quindi fornisce le origini della Baba Yaga. Inoltre, l'atmosfera malsana che si percepisce per gran parte di Don't knock on that door, well reflects a situation steeped in mystery. However, these merits fail to make up for those shortcomings that are felt while watching the film. Predominant in fact is that sense of unfinishedness typical of films with little impact.
