On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, Cemetery Man (1994) returns to theaters Oct. 14 in a restored version.
Based on the novel by Tiziano Sclavi, Michele Soavi's cult film starring Rupert Everett and Anna Falchi will be distributed to theaters by CG Entertainment in collaboration with Cat People, thanks to R&C Productions.
Plot: Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett) is the cemetery caretaker in the small Italian town of Buffalora, with his mentally disabled assistant Gnaghi for company (François Hadji-Lazaro). For obscure reasons, the dead buried there rise up, driven by murderous instincts.
To kill them, it is necessary to smash their heads, and for Francis it is just a routine act until one day, among the tombstones, he meets a beautiful widow (Anna Falchi). For the the cemetery caretaker it will be the beginning of a descent into pain and madness, among the living dead and the dying living.
In the cast of Cemetery Man there are also François Hadji-Lazaro, Barbara Cupisti, Mickey Knox, and Stefano Masciarelli.
The film's screenplay is by Gianni Romoli while the special effects are by Sergio Stivaletti. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is by Manuel De Sica.
With Cemetery Man, Michele Soavi skillfully blended horror, black comedy and Gothic romance to create a unique atmosphere, with moments of tension alternating with surreal and grotesque situations.
Martin Scorsese defined it one of the best Italian cinema productions of the time and even today, 30 years after its release, Cemetery Man is considered a cult both in Italy and abroad: a unique work, appreciated by fans and critics.
