With a message on Twitter, director Jason Lei Howden announced the cancellation of Deathgasm Part 2: Goremageddon, the sequel to Deathgasm, the metalhead horror he directed in 2015.
According to Howden's disclosure, pre-production of the sequel was scheduled to begin in February, but instead the project was canceled because it was deemed "too commercial."
Written and directed by Jason Lei Howden, Deathgasm is a New Zealand horror-comedy, a perfect horror-metal combination with an 80s atmosphere that offers abundant splatter and gore sequences. The film also enjoys an original soundtrack and also effective special effects (by Storm McCracken and Tim Wells).
Plot of Deathgasm: outcasts Brodie and Zakk are two teenage metalheads united by a passion for heavy metal music. The two students start a band together but a strange musical score will disrupt their lives forever. Whoever plays it will in fact receive great power, but it will also awaken "Aeloth The Blind One," an ancient evil entity that will turn human beings into psychotic demons.
In the cast: Milo Cawthorne, James Blake, Kimberley Crossman, Daniel Cresswell, Sam Berkley, Stephen Ure, Colin Moy, and Delaney Tabron.
