Lucky Red has released the Italian poster and new synopsis of Crimes of the Future (2022), the body horror written and directed by the celebrated David Cronenberg (Rabid, Brood, Scanners, The Fly) returning to the big screen after an eight-year absence.
The film will arrive in Italian theaters on August 24 with Lucky Red.
Crimes of the Future takes its title from his earlier 1970 film without being its remake and stars Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence, The Assassin's Promise), Léa Seydoux (Spectre, No time to die) and Kristen Stewart (Twilight, Underwater).
In Crimes of the Future, David Cronenberg continues to explore man's terror in the face of the mutation of the flesh, involving not only the physical but also the psychological aspect.
Official synopsis: in an unspecified future, the disastrous effects of pollution and climate change have altered the bodies of human beings, now capable of implementing continuous mutations. Former surgeon Caprice (Léa Seydoux) harnesses her partner Saul Tenser's (Viggo Mortensen) ability to develop new organs to create artistic performances of surgical removal, in which the pair publicly display the internal metamorphosis of humans. These avant-garde performances attract the attention of Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator for the National Organ Registry, but also of a suspected subversive group whose goal is to take humanity to the next evolutionary stage.
Completing the cast are Scott Speedman (Underworld), Don McKellar, Welket Bungué, Tanaya Beatty, Lihi Kornowski, Yorgos Karamichos, and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos.
Crimes of the Future had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
"Crimes Of The Future. Is a meditation on human evolution. Specifically, on the ways through which we have taken control of this process having created such powerful environments that did not exist before.
Crimes Of The Future Is an evolution of things I have done in the past. Fans will see references
key to other scenes and moments from my previous films. This film continues in my
Understanding of technology related to the human body.
Technology is always an extension of the human body, even when it seems to be very
mechanical and not human. A fist is enhanced by a club or a stone you throw, but
In the end, that bat or that stone is just an extension of a power that the human body has
Already.
At this critical point in human history, the question arises: will the human body be able to evolve to solve the
problems we have created? The human body can develop a process to digest plastic and
other man-made materials not only as part of a solution to the climate crisis, but also to
Grow, thrive and survive?" ~ David Cronenberg.
