We announce the Official Selections of the category BEST SHORT FILM of DarkVeins Horror Fest 2023, a festival dedicated to horror cinema and now in its seventh year.
The DarkVeins Horror Fest is an international event dedicated to horror, dark, gothic, extreme genre cinematography and is curated by the Dark Circle Cultural Association.
As a reminder, Official Selections have already been announced for Best Poster, Best Trailer and Best Feature Film.
Among the films competing in the category BEST SHORT FILM, in this seventh edition of the DarkVeins Horror Fest 2023 The following short films were selected:

Official Selections BEST SHORT FILM:
The Moon of the Kurent: The Ritual (Slovenia - 2022):
Written and directed by Tomaž Gorkič, the director of Idila, The Moon of the Kurent: The Ritual is a 6-minute short film and focuses on a macabre pagan ritual performed by a mysterious man in the name of ancient forgotten Slavic gods. Is this a fertility ritual performed by a priest or a serial killer?
The film stars Marinko Prga and Lara Vouk.
Hooves (Bahrain - 2023):
Hooves is written and directed by Hamad Abdulla Ali while the cast includes Gloria El-Achkar and Lize Johnston.
About 7 minutes long, the film is a supernatural horror short in which an expectant mother and her child are tormented and haunted by a terrible demon.
The Hunter (Canada - 2023):
Donavan Richard was responsible for the production, screenplay and direction of The Hunter.
This is a 7-minute, dialogue-free short film in which the main character is a hunter who will have an unpleasant surprise during his day of hunting.
The film stars Bruno Poitras and Clara Cloutier.
For What the Door Bell Tolls (Japan - 2023):
Produced, written, directed and performed by Nori Uchida, For What the Door Bell Tolls is an approximately ten-minute zombie-based horror short film packed with special effects.
In the film, the protagonist will have to deal with the dangerous contents of an anonymous package received at home...
The Marinn Company (USA - 2022):
The Marinn Company is a 14-minute horror short film and is written and directed by Emma Swider.
The film stars Brianna Cohen as Marinn, an evolved robot created to satisfy the sexual desires of customers who come to the company in search of pleasure.
Over time, however, Marinn will develop a human sensitivity that will lead her to challenge her programmers.
The cast also includes Mars Roberts.
Greed & Gore (Canada - 2023)
Greed & Gore is a 15-minute thriller/horror/action short film directed by Adam Kirkey from a script he co-wrote with Mathieu Lamarche.
The story follows five criminals who choose the wrong hideout to hide after robbing a bank.
In the cast: Julie Mainville, Monica Zelak, Krishan Dutt, Nick DeWolfe, Matthew Bell and Curt Derosiers.
The Overkill (Canada - 2022):
Written by Gillian Fortin and Oswald Mahogany, The Overkill is an approximately 16-minute horror short in which the protagonist is stuck in a time loop in which his psyche ruefully generates a wide variety of possibilities for death at the hands of his girlfriend...
The film stars Gillian Fortin and Jeremy Johnson.
Unsold (Italy - 2022):
Of the duration of 17 minutes, Unsold is a short horror film produced, written and directed by Luca Canali.
The story takes place on Halloween night and sheds light on Agatha, a 12-year-old girl who wakes up handcuffed to a couch while an elderly woman is making her dinner. The night will soon be filled with unforeseen events that will force the two to reveal their true intentions....
Unsold Is played by Giuseppina Morara and Vanessa Squeri.
Turno de Noche: The Wrong Place (Spain - 2023):
Written by José Casas and directed by Juanjo Avi, Turno de Noche: The Wrong Place Is a violent 20-minute horror short film.
In the film, J, the janitor of an auto wrecking yard, is on night duty in the company of his trusty El Jefe, when a serial killer and the victim he let get away arrive at his dump...
