DarkVeins Horror Fest 2019: Best Short Film - The Official Selections

We announce the Official Selections of the category BEST SHORT FILM of DarkVeins Horror Fest 2019. The following short horror films were chosen from the competition films in this third edition of the Festival:

  • The Dark Dawn (Italy - 2019) by Alessandro Spada;
  • Dead Air (UK - 2019) by Geoff Harmer;
  • Charon (Russia - 2019) by Alexander Maslov;
  • The Baby Farmer (USA - 2019) by Patrick Lee;
  • The Third Hand (UK - 2018) by Margot Douglas;
  • Limbus (Mexico - 2018) by Rubén Zúñiga Padilla;
  • Five Course Meal (Canada - 2018) by James Cadden

venus-project-posterWritten and directed by Italian director William Mussini, Venus Project is a 23-minute horror short film featuring a biker struggling with a mysterious bag that fell from the sky.
Inside, the man will find the lifeless body of a young woman with whom he will also entertain himself sexually, unaware of his true nature.
In the cast: Fabrizio Russo and Giada Primiano.

the-dark-dawn-posterProduced, written and directed by Alessandro Spada, The Dark Dawn is a horror short film about demonic possession that sheds light on the struggle between good and evil while not neglecting its repercussions on humanity.
Plot: a house in the woods, a priest, a broken family, and a troubled girl.
Everywhere, signs of a dark omen.
The cast includes Janet Fischietto, Jacqueline Flous, Milvia Marigliano and Marco Foresti.

dead-air-posterWritten by Peter Hearn and directed by Geoff Harmer, Dead Air is a horror comedy about "monster kittens" that pays homage to cult films of the 1980s and 1990s and, especially, movies like Critters and Gremlins but also From - Beyond - Terror from the unknown and Vamp.
Plot: en route to the last concert of its tour, an all-female punk rock band will have to defend itself against tiny little monsters that will spread terror, contagion and death aboard the plane.
In the cast: Stacy Hart, Kate Davies-Speak, Charlie Bond, Johanna Stanton, David Schaal, James Hamer-Morton, and Dan Palmer.

charon-posterThe Russian short film Charon (aka Харон) is directed by Alexander Maslov, who also handled the screenplay together with Maksim Lagunov. From the dark atmospheres, Charon is a gothic short film featuring a girl on the run.
Plot: ended up in the water due to a chase, a young woman is rescued by a man and transported to the other shore against her will aboard a small boat. The journey, for her, may be a one-way one..
In the cast: Igor Savochkin, Mila Denisenko, Olya Anikina and Sergey Goloborodko.

the-baby-farmer-posterWritten by Jaime Herrera Jr. and directed by Jaime Herrera Jr, The Baby Farmer is a short horror genre film featuring the mother of a giant grub.
Plot: Chicago, 1940s. Psychologically destroyed, the mother of a hideous creature will have to deal with an unusual kidnapper who has a definite plan in mind.
In the cast:
Sydney Richards, Kristin Walker, and Sandy Gulliver.

the-third-hand-posterThe Third Hand is a sci-fi horror short film written and directed by Yoni Weisberg. In The Third Hand an employee's life will change dramatically as a result of an office power outage.
Plot: a man surrendered to the monotony of his work and life will experience intense emotions when, a blackout in the night will let a mysterious room appear inside which pould be access to his wildest dreams or his worst nightmares.
In the cast: Tom Bonington.

limbus-posterLimbus is a Mexican short film about a child's transition from life to death.
Stuck in limbo, her soul will suffer detachment from loved ones and, above all, the terror of darkness and what lies within it.
Limbus is produced, written and directed by Rubén Zúñiga Padilla.
Instead, the cast includes Rocio Marquez and Carlos Hugo Hoeflich.

five-course-meal-posterThe horror short film Five Course Meal features A couple who, for money, agree to be part of a mysterious experiment with unexpected and shocking implications.
Based on the short story of the same name written by Josh Saltzman, Five Course Meal is a body horror film written and directed by James Cadden.
In the cast: Melissa Kwasek and Murray Farnell.
